What are your computer's Start Up and Shut Down sounds ?
Start Up sound is the audio file which is played when Windows starts up whilst Shut Down sound is played when Windows shuts down. Both of these sounds are, by default, Microsoft Sounds and stored in the folder 'C:/Windows/Media';
Can the User Customise these sounds ?
Yes. Wouldn't it be nice to have Windows start with the sound 'Bismillah' which means 'In the Name of ALLAH' and shut down with the sound 'Assalamoualaikoum' which stands for ' Peace be upon you' ?
How to go about changing these sounds ?
Follow the instructions below to change the Start Up and Shut Down sounds of your PC (note that you can always revert back to the default Microsoft Sounds as required):
Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click on 'Sounds and Multimedia' (for WinMe) or 'Sounds' (for Win95/98). Note that this icon name differs for different Windows versions.
Under the 'Sounds' tab, do the following ...
(a) to change the Start Up sound
Find and select "SystemStart" with a speaker icon next to it. (select "Start Windows" for Win95/98)
Click on the 'Browse' button and select the sound you want to use to replace the default sound. Click 'OK' button. You can click on the 'Play' button to make sure that this is the audio file you want.
The chosen sound is now your Start Up sound
(b) to change the Shut Down sound
Find and select "Exit Windows" with a speaker icon next to it
Click on the 'Browse' button and select the sound you want to use to replace the default sound. Click 'OK' button. You can click on the 'Play' button to make sure that this is the audio file you want.
The chosen sound is now your Shut Down sound
4. Click on 'Apply' button and then 'OK' to confirm the changes made.
